Section — what is included
What full paint polishing includes
Paint polishing is machine work on the clear coat, not a wash and a wipe. It removes the layer of damaged, oxidized and swirled clear coat that makes paint look flat, and levels what is left so light reflects cleanly again.
Our full paint polishing service covers:
- Paint correction — removing defects from the clear coat rather than hiding them under a glaze or a heavy wax.
- Swirl removal — the fine circular scratches left by brushing, poor washing and automatic car washes.
- Gloss enhancement — restoring depth and reflection, which is most obvious on dark colours.
- Long-lasting shine — a finish that stays glossy because the surface is actually smooth, not because it is coated in product.
The flyer describes this service as "Paint correction, swirl removal, gloss enhancement, and long-lasting shine." Everything above is that description expanded in plain language.
[CONFIRM: whether a wax, sealant or protection step is included after polishing, and whether a two-stage correction is offered as an upgrade.]

Paint polishing prices in Calgary
[CONFIRM: SUV, minivan and 7-seat pricing.]
[CONFIRM: whether heavier correction (two-stage), ceramic coating or paint protection film is offered, and at what price. Do not publish these until confirmed — they are not on the flyer.]
Why trucks cost more: a truck has more panel area, taller sides and a larger hood and roof, so polishing takes materially longer. The $100 difference reflects the extra machine time, not a different standard of work.
Section — Calgary causes
What causes dull paint in Calgary
Three things do most of the damage here, and none of them are the owner's fault.
Winter road salt and brine. Salt and calcium chloride sit on paint and in seams for months. They are alkaline and abrasive, and when they are wiped off dry they drag grit across the clear coat.
Gravel and sand. Spring street sweeping and highway driving throw fine grit at lower panels, bumpers and mirrors. Each impact is microscopic, but thousands of them scatter light and the paint starts to look chalky.
UV and freeze-thaw. Calgary sits at high altitude with long summer daylight and a heavy UV load, which oxidizes clear coat and fades single-stage paint. Chinook freeze-thaw cycles open microscopic cracks that hold moisture and dirt.
Add brushing snow off with a broom or a scraper, and automatic brush washes, and you get the swirl pattern most Calgary vehicles show under direct sun.
Section — education / wax vs polish
Polishing vs waxing: what is the difference?
Wax is a sacrificial layer on top of the paint. It adds gloss and a little protection, but it does not change the surface underneath. If the clear coat is swirled or oxidized, wax makes it look slightly better for a few weeks and then it is gone.
Polishing changes the surface. It removes the damaged layer and levels the clear coat, so the improvement is permanent until new damage occurs. Wax or sealant after polishing protects the result.
This is why the Full Detailing Package ($220) includes wax, and Full Paint Polishing ($300) is a separate, more involved service. They solve different problems.

Section — when to book
When to book paint polishing
- After winter, if the paint looks flat or chalky and washing does not bring the gloss back.
- Before selling or trading in, when the paint is the first thing a buyer judges.
- Before a wrap or film is applied, so defects are not sealed underneath.
- On a new-to-you used vehicle, to establish a clean baseline you can then maintain.
- On dark colours — black, navy, dark grey — where swirl marks are most visible.

Frequently asked questions
At Drivers & Riders, full paint polishing is $300 for a sedan, hatchback or coupe and $400 for trucks.
They are used interchangeably in the industry. Both describe machine work that removes defects from the clear coat. Our full paint polishing service includes paint correction, swirl removal and gloss enhancement.
It removes swirl marks, light wash marring and oxidation in the clear coat. Scratches that have gone through the clear coat into the paint or primer cannot be polished out. [CONFIRM: how the shop handles deep scratches — quote, touch-up or referral.]
[CONFIRM duration.] It is a longer appointment than a wash-and-wax detail because the paint has to be decontaminated and then worked panel by panel.
Yes, when it is done with the right pad and compound combination and the clear coat is measured first. Polishing removes a very thin layer by design.
Yes. A coating or wrap locks in whatever is underneath it, so polishing first is what makes the finish look right and last.
Yes. Trucks are $400 because of the larger panel area and machine time.
